MACROLANE

Also know as the Boob-Jab, we at Cosmedico would like our perspective clients to understand why we do not carry out this procedure.

Macrolane is artificial filler which is injected into the breast to give a temporary result. Unfortunately, the Irish Media has to date failed to bring to your attention the following dangers..

  1. It is claimed that these fillers are temporary and it is absorbed and broken down within the body over time, but with no evidence of where it goes or what the long term effects may be.
  2. Women report that they are left with lumpy areas which do not go away. Sometimes this can have a distorted appearance on the breast.
  3. Breast cancer detection is made difficult to discern with the filler in place and creating the lumpy areas making it dangerous. We have women who come to us regretting the waste of money and now requiring breast augmentation. Even 12-18months later. We will still require a radiology scan to see if it is still present in the body.
  4. Over all costs are ridiculously high for the procedure, firstly to have the Macrolane, then a “top up” is required after a few months and thereafter escalating the cost factor
  5. Can effect breast feeding
  6. This product is not available in the US as it is not FDA approved.
  7. The study for this product was conducted on Asian women who clearly have a different shape to European women and by nature are much smaller in their breast size and shape.
  8. We would have approx 3-4 women calling us per month asking us how long after they have had Marcolane can they have augmentation. We need them to first have a Ultrasound and not in all cases would the surgeon proceed with surgery even after 1 year.
  9. We have seen clients that have come to Cosmedico where the product is visible in the breast. This can appear as a long ripple effect downward on the breast.

This information is not to scare patients by any means at all. We are merely giving the facts and our own experience. In fact, our surgeons can easily perform this procedure but with all the information and statistics at their disposal, they have all chosen not to perform the Marcolane Injection
